After graduated from Keio University in Faculty of Engineering, I joined a foreign capital company. I was engaged in development of new products in a development department, and then was in charge of patent for communications, software and image processing technologies in an intellectual property department. 17 years later (12 years after I had joined the intellectual property department), I established Serio Patent & Trademark Attorneys. I support clients with my experience and achievement such as license negotiations, proposals to numerous companies, activities in JIPA, and Asian issues studies in the Licensing Executives Society (LES) Japan.
When I was in the intellectual property department, I studied for patent attorney examination, and submitted 444 applications per year in addition to considering countermeasure for patent of other companies. At that time, I felt a sense of crisis that 1) I would end up collapsing, 2) I could not secure sufficient time for study, and 3) nothing was produced from the work of turning down proposed inventions by inventors in the company. Then, I made direct and close communication with the research and development department to drive the organization, and introduced strategic patent applications to discover effective patents on the upstream side of product development. From this experience, I acquired know-how for advising technical engineers to discover valuable inventions that are likely to be overlooked. I hope it would be helpful for our clients.

Takeshi CHIDA

After receiving a master’s degree, I joined a chemical company, involved in research and development of rubber products for 15 years. After that, I worked in the IP department of the company for 13 years, taking a responsibility for patent applications, dealing with competitors’ patents and litigation. I qualified as a patent attorney in 2000, and joined this firm in July 2002. Since then, I had been engaged in obtaining patent rights both in Japan and overseas and dealing with competitors’ patents. Since October 2013, I have been working for the firm as an adviser.
