After graduated from Keio University in Faculty of Engineering, I joined a foreign capital company. I was engaged in development of new products in a development department, and then was in charge of patent for communications, software and image processing technologies in an intellectual property department. 17 years later (12 years after I had joined the intellectual property department), I established Serio Patent & Trademark Attorneys. I support clients with my experience and achievement such as license negotiations, proposals to numerous companies, activities in JIPA, and Asian issues studies in the Licensing Executives Society (LES) Japan.
When I was in the intellectual property department, I studied for patent attorney examination, and submitted 444 applications per year in addition to considering countermeasure for patent of other companies. At that time, I felt a sense of crisis that 1) I would end up collapsing, 2) I could not secure sufficient time for study, and 3) nothing was produced from the work of turning down proposed inventions by inventors in the company. Then, I made direct and close communication with the research and development department to drive the organization, and introduced strategic patent applications to discover effective patents on the upstream side of product development. From this experience, I acquired know-how for advising technical engineers to discover valuable inventions that are likely to be overlooked. I hope it would be helpful for our clients.
I have 9 years’ experience of product development in a design department of an automaker, and 2 years’ experience of intellectual property-related activities such as liaison, acquisition of rights and countermeasures for patents in other companies, in an intellectual property department of a company. I always think about how to use my skills to maximize our client’s benefit.

After receiving a master’s degree, I was engaged in product development in an office-supply company. Then, I moved to an intellectual property department, and was in charge of applications, disputes, and education of intellectual property right. After graduated from University of Tokyo, I joined an electronics company. I was engaged in on-line bank accounting system development as a system engineer in a financial system group. Then, I moved to an intellectual property department, and was in charge of acquisition of patents. At the time of a rapid increase of business model applications, I played a central role in a project for promoting patent applications for business models with the entire company support including support from a sales department and a human resources department. After working in the company for 13 years (in the IP department for 8 years), I joined Serio Patent & Trademark Attorneys. I am committed to correct, clear and careful documentation on the basis of the working experience in the intellectual property department in the company, while standing by our clients.
I have 36 years of experience in corporate IP activities, including U.S. patent litigation, licensing negotiations, IP management at U.S. institutions and a Chinese local subsidiary and dealing with counterfeit goods. To develop my legal mind, I entered the faculty of law of a university while working and got a degree. As the representative of the Osaka office of this firm, I’m currently engaged in winning new clients as well as assisting our clients in obtaining and utilizing patent rights, signing agreements and obtaining and managing trademarks. Based on my years of experience in corporate IP activities, I can provide our clients with strong support that enhances our clients’ business activities.
After completing the graduate school, I was mainly engaged in research on forecasting heavy rainfall disasters, constructing systems of electric power generation amount/weather disaster prevention, global warming forecasting and so on.

After receiving a master’s degree, I joined a research institute of a telecommunications carrier, and made a contribution to manufacturing/design techniques of MOS LSIs and liquid-crystal displays, and development of a liquid-crystal display mode technology. During this work, I studied and utilized various kinds of technologies. Based on this experience, I am mainly in charge of patent applications and response to office actions in electrics/electronics. My motto is to obtain effective patents. To achieve this, I focus on accurate technical writing and adequate scope of right. I belong to a patent committee in JPAA, where I’ve been studying claim interpretation methodologies.
At the customs where I worked for 16 years after graduating from the university, I was mainly involved in border enforcement of intellectual property infringement goods.
At the patent firm which I belonged to after working in the public corporation and the private company, I was involved in consulting of intellectual property, acquiring domestic and international rights, making statements pertaining to border enforcement of intellectual property infringement goods and so on.
After joining Serio Patent & Trademark Attorneys, I have continued to be mainly in charge of acquiring domestic and international rights. I think that the shortest way to grasp the essence of inventions is to enjoy listening to client’s inquiries about their inventions without any preconceptions.

I studied basics of physical chemistry, organic chemistry and so on in the university. After graduated from the university, I worked in a dispensing pharmacy. Afterwards, I joined Serio Patent & Trademark Attorneys in February 2023. I always keep in mind to communicate with inventors actively and to accurately understand their thoughts about their inventions and the key points of their inventions.
After receiving a master’s degree, I joined a chemical company, involved in research and development of rubber products for 15 years. After that, I worked in the IP department of the company for 13 years, taking a responsibility for patent applications, dealing with competitors’ patents and litigation. I qualified as a patent attorney in 2000, and joined this firm in July 2002. Since then, I had been engaged in obtaining patent rights both in Japan and overseas and dealing with competitors’ patents. Since October 2013, I have been working for the firm as an adviser. With deep insight into thoughts and concepts of inventors, I am fully committed to drafting patent claims that reflect the substantial features of the invention and that get around the prior art.
